Census data

1991 census data for SLS members and those living in their household, including:

  • age, sex, marital status
  • family, household or communal establishment type
  • housing variables – including tenure, rooms and amenities
  • country of birth
  • ethnicity
  • educational qualifications
  • economic activity
  • occupation and social class
  • migration
  • limiting long-term illness

2001 census data for SLS members and those living in their household. Similar to 1991 variables, but additionally includes:

  • self-rated health
  • religion
  • caregiving

2011 census data for SLS members and those living in their household will be available from Autumn 2014 and includes new information on:

  • status of visitors
  • type of central heating
  • date of arrival in the UK and intention to stay
  • extended questions on language
  • national identity
  • detail of long-term illness/disability
