What sort of things does the SLS get used for?

Because the SLS includes information about employment, health, housing, education, family relationships and more, it is possible to explore many different issues using the SLS. Here are just a few examples of how the SLS has been used in the past:

  • investigating whether being exposed to pollution when pregnant affects the baby’s development
  • which young people are most at risk of being unemployed and not in education at age 16?
  • why do people who live in Glasgow seem to have poorer health?
  • does sectarianism really exist in the West of Scotland?
