Contact Dr Helen Corby

Helen works on the Scottish Longitudinal Study as a Methodology Research Support Officer. Their background is in psychology, public health and quantitative analysis, but their main research interests are in the application of administrative data for psychology and health research.

For Helen’s PhD research they used the SLS to investigate older people’s use of care homes in Scotland. They considered a range of socio-demographic, health, household and geographical variables, and explored how these were associated with older people’s use of care homes in Scotland. They also considered how these factors differed depending on gender and time period.

Helen has also worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre at University of Edinburgh. Here they worked on an administrative data linkage project linking health and education data for autistic children to investigate their early literacy profiles. They were also involved in projects using health data from the Universal Health Visiting Pathway for Child Health Reviews in Scotland.
